Giovanna Rigattieri

Giovanna Rigattieri was born in Venice in 1983. She graduated in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice in 2007. A finalist in numerous competitions, including Premio Celeste 2008, Italian Factory 2008, Wildlife Artist of the Year 2016 and recently a finalist in Exibart Prize 2021.

He has exhibited nationally and internationally since 2004, collaborating with Martina Cavallarin and Scatola Bianca Project Room in Milan, the Makek Gallery in Zagreb, the Castello 925 Gallery exhibition spaces in Venice and The Mall Galleries in London.

His small-scale works, made with a mixture of paint, tears and collage, move between abstraction and figuration. Mixing Fauves painting with contemporary imagery, he pushes into overt social criticism, while also allowing intimate and private realities to emerge.

Screams and sonorous laughter echo in places described by a strong destructive potential. Childlike characters and sea monsters alternate with giant pink parasites, flying fish and angry rabbits.

Peculiar figures surface and exorcise even the most gruesome war scenario and children soar as superheroes beyond the adult pain.

Ironic and dreamlike paradises, perhaps irrational nightmares, but more likely, colourful theses of paradoxical possible solutions of thought.
